Privacy policy
Last updated: November 3, 2026
Seen City lets you comment on a series or a film at the exact moment something happens, without ever seeing what you haven't watched yet. This page explains which personal data we use to make that work, why, and what your rights are.
Who is responsible for your data?
The data controller is Nina Marchand, sole proprietor, SIRET 528 919 640 00060, 121 rue Paul Lafargue, A201, 59000 Lille, France. For any question about your data: seencity.app@gmail.com.
What data do we use?
- Your account: email address, password (which we cannot read: it is protected by our authentication provider), username and chosen language, as well as the date you accepted the terms of use.
- Your profile and settings: discreet mode, whether you share your activity (what you watch, your lists, your comments), whether people can find you by username, notification settings.
- What you post: comments and replies, with the moment of the episode or film they are attached to, their date and any edits; messages and replies in the “spoiler corner” (a discussion space reserved for people who have finished the episode, the season or the film); reactions (emojis) to comments, to messages or to feed events.
- Your progress and lists: episodes and films in progress (with the position reached), favorites, “to watch”, “seen” (with the “private” option), titles chosen at sign-up, notification settings specific to each series or film.
- Your social activity: friend requests, friends, blocked people, hidden friend suggestions, activity events shown in your friends' feed (depending on your settings), title recommendations sent or received between friends, and notifications.
- Moderation: reports of comments and messages (who reports, which content, for what reason), hidden or removed content, any sanctions (suspension or ban, with their reason) and the history of episode-length corrections that were proposed.
- Your messages to the team: the suggestions you send from the app (category, text, date).
- Emails: we only write to you for the operation of your account (confirmation code, forgotten password, email change). We send no newsletter and no advertising.
- Technical data: IP address and connection logs processed by our hosting provider to keep the service secure. To limit abuse (for example an excessive number of requests), a counter linked to your IP address is kept briefly, then deleted automatically. As of the date of this policy, the app uses no advertising, no audience-measurement tool and no advertising tracker.
- On your phone: your login session, your language, drafts of messages you haven't posted and the list of what you have reported (to hide it for you) stay stored on your device.
- Posters and images (including photos of actors and directors): they come from TMDB's servers. When your device displays them, it contacts those servers, which can see your IP address.
We do not ask for your location, or for access to your contacts, your camera or your photos.
Why do we use it?
- To create your account, display your comments, progress and lists, and hide the comments you haven't reached yet: performance of the contract between us (see the terms of use).
- To run the social features (friends, activity feed, reactions, notifications): performance of the contract.
- To suggest titles and people you may know: our legitimate interest in making the service useful.
- To send you the emails your account needs (confirmation code, forgotten password, email change): performance of the contract.
- To keep the service secure, fight abuse and moderate reported content (hide it, remove it, suspend an account): our legitimate interest and our legal obligations.
- To answer your requests and, where applicable, requests from authorities: legal obligation.
We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.
Who can see your data?
- Other users can see your username, your comments and your reactions. A comment is only shown to people who have reached the moment it is attached to. A “spoiler corner” message is only shown to people who have finished the moment concerned.
- Your friends can see in their feed what you watch, add to your lists or comment on, depending on your settings. Discreet mode limits this. Anything you mark “private” is visible only to you. Your friends can also open your profile page (your favorites, what you want to watch, what you are watching, your latest activity), within the limits of what you choose to share; someone who is not your friend sees only your username.
- The publisher can look at a reported comment or message in order to moderate it, as well as the suggestions you send.
Which providers do we use?
- Supabase (the company Supabase Pte. Ltd., Singapore): the app's database, authentication and server functions. Hosting region: West EU (Ireland).
- Resend: sending the emails related to your account, from servers located in Europe.
- TMDB (The Movie Database): the catalog of series, films and people (actors, directors), and images.
- GitHub: hosting of this information website.
- Apple: distribution of the app on the App Store.
These providers process data on our behalf, or supply the catalog in the case of TMDB. We do not share your data with anyone else, unless the law requires it.
How long do we keep it?
For as long as your account exists. When you delete your account from the “My account” screen in the app, your account, comments, spoiler-corner messages, suggestions, recommendations, progress and lists are permanently deleted. Codes sent by email expire after one hour. Our hosting provider's technical backups may keep a copy for a limited time before it is erased in their normal rotation. Some data may be kept longer when the law requires it.
Transfers outside the European Union
Some of our providers are established outside the European Union, notably in the United States. When data is transferred there, it is protected by appropriate safeguards provided for by the European data protection regulation (an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses).
Your rights
At any time, you can:
- get a copy of the data we hold about you and find out how it is used;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- ask for it to be erased, or delete your account yourself from “My account”;
- ask us to restrict the processing or object to it on grounds relating to your situation;
- receive your data in a common format (portability);
- give instructions about what happens to your data after your death (a right under French law).
To exercise these rights, write to seencity.app@gmail.com. We reply within one month. If you believe your rights are not being respected, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority, at www.cnil.fr, or with the authority in your own country.
Security
Exchanges between the app and our servers are encrypted. Passwords are protected by the authentication provider and cannot be read by us. Access rules applied at the database level mean that each person can only access their own data and what others have chosen to make visible. No system is infallible: if a data breach puts you at risk, we will tell you, and the CNIL where the law requires it.
Minors
Seen City is for people aged 15 and over. By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 15 (checkbox at sign-up). If you think a younger person has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.
Cookies and trackers
This website does not set any cookies or trackers. The app keeps on your phone the technical information it needs to work (your login session, your language, your drafts and the list of what you have reported); it is not used for advertising or tracking.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example if we add a feature that changes how your data is used (such as notifications on your phone). The date at the top of the page shows the latest version. If a change is important, we will tell you in the app.
